ISKA World Championship Thaiboxing
Helene Garnett v Jorina Barrs
Wicker Camp in association with Showsport International staged a World Championship Thaiboxing event on the 29th March at the Octagon Centre in Sheffield. The main event was an ISKA Ladies World title contest, England’s Helene Garnett (Wicker Camp) faced Holland’s Jorina Barrs (Team Schrijber) to decide the welterweight championship. Both girls were undefeated European Champions although Baars has twice as many fights a Garnett.
The crowd got behind the hometown girl as she made her way to the ring to the sound of ABBA’s Dancing Queen. There was a real air of excitement and anticipation. Jorina came steaming out with all guns blazing in the first round, Garnett covered up weathered the storm. The pace was fast and furious in the second with both girls kicking, punching and kneeing to the head. Garnett caught Baars with some solid punches to the face and some great head kicks but Jorina was relentless and caught Helene with a strong knee to the face in the fourth round. This was a real bloody battle which was very close that ended in a majority decision for Barrs 49-48, 49-48, 47-49
British Champion Mehdi Firoozi (Wicker Camp) faced Shaun Lomas (BCS) to contest ISKA Commonwealth Super-middleweight Muaythai Title 78.1kg fight and a rematch from last year when Firoozi fought Lomas in Birmingham and won Lomas felt he could have done better. Firoozi took control of the fight from the first round and hit Lomas with everything in his arsenal, punches, kicks, knees and elbows. Lomas showed unstoppable fighting spirit and came back a couple of times landing a solid punch in the Third which dropped Firoozi for an eight count. Firoozi stepped up a gear in the fourth and fifth out classing Lomas catching him with more solid punches and head kicks. A unanimous decision for Firoozi and credit must go to Lomas for being such a tough opponent.
Thomas McCormick (Wicker Camp) faced Colm Jillaine (Cambridge Freefighters) in a British title eliminator for the Super-Welterweight Muaythai title 69.6kg . Jillane was the more experienced fighter with a slight weight advantage but McCorkmack was the much younger man. McCormack fought clever, keeping the more aggressive and stronger Jillane at bay, scoring and moving constantly. Jillane was always dangerous and wanted to stand and trade but McCormack dictated the pace and skilfully controlled Jillane who was unable to pin McCorrmack down. Jillane was constantly peppered with punches, kicks and elbows throughout the fight sustaining a cut to the top of his head in the Third round. A unanimous decision to Thomas McCormack
In the supporting bouts Jamie Woodward (Wicker Camp) defeated Kieran Woods (SMTC) by unanimous decision. Jamie Shepherd (Wicker Camp) defeated Matthew McDonnell (SMTC) by unanimous decision. James Ogden (Wicker Camp) defeated Dougie Clarke (Fighting Fit) by Majority decision. David Macintosh (Bad Company) defeated Rajesh Sallen (Team Fearless) by unanimous decision.

3. Bron Vickers V Jodie Palozzi (Winner UPD Jodie Palozzi)

5. Josh Tonna V Shawn Lin (Winner UPD Josh Tonna)
Bulldog ACT Lightning Lee Gym
These two young charges were having a rematch for a title so both were keen to impress and definitely came to fight hard. Shawn walked forward from the first bell with an aggressive punching style which seemed to have stunned Josh temporarily, patiently Josh found his combinations beginning to work and also landed some long range knees which did enough damage to his more experienced opponent. Josh took the belt after 4 rounds.
6. Michael Van Der Vilst V Brane Zec (Winner Brane Zec KO Rd2)
Tama Tehuna BJC ACT
Both guys came out all guns blazing with an early knock down to Michael, but was soon to be deducted a point for unsportsmanlike behaviour. ISKA 69.5kg Sth Pacific Kickboxing Title
7. Warrick Harrington V Nick Rivera (Winner Nick Rivera TKO Rd2)
Bulldog ACT Lighting Lee Gym
A very classy Nick Rivera was just too technical and experienced for his young and upcoming local opponent on the night, the referee calling a stop to the fight after giving Warrick two 8-count within the 2nd round. A disappointed crowd booing the decision but the safety of the fighter always has to be the top priority.
8. Kim Louden V Gaz Rees (Winner UPD Kim Louden)
Rick Kulu/Supalek Phoenix Gym ACT
Kim Louden again impressed everybody with his strong technique and skill taking the fight on late notice. Gaz was having trouble finding use of his long range and looked to be a little trouble by Kim’s strong grappling style.
ISKA Super Heavyweight Oriental Rules World Title (Winner by vicous KO Ben Edwards)
9. Ben Edwards V Rick Cheek
Bulldog ACT AUS Nth California Fighting Alliance USA
‘Savage’ Rick Cheek started the fight in relaxed fashion moving around well avoiding Bens well-known damaging punches landing a quick combination of his own but taking a few legs kicks as well before Ben erupted, landing a devastating over-hand/right hook that echoed into the crowded and vocal room taking the World Title by knock out!

Laredo, Spain
For more than 1.500 people the spanish European Champion Abraham ROQUENI challenged the former World Champion Tim THOMAS for the vacant Superwelter weight title.
First opponent was the french K-1 rules European Champion Odje MANDA but he get injured by a car accident. ( get well soon) First replacement was the Austrian former Super league fighter Fadi MERZA, but however he could not take the fight. So just few days before the event the British Tim THOMAS get informed about that World title fight. Thomas was in top form because he should fight in Cambodia on the same day but the promoter canceled the show in Phnom Penh.
The fight started slow and we saw a technical fight. Until round five the fight was equal. In round six Roqueni kickt powerful to the head of Thomas and Referee Juan PINILLA has to count until eight. Just 20 seconds later the same kick from Roqueni and Thomas was fallen on the floor like a tree.
New ISKA World Champion – 69,5 Kg Abraham ROQUENI from Laredo, Spain. His European title is now vacant.

On Sat March 28th at the David Lloyd Centre in Ipswich Marlon “The Game” Hunt won the ISKA Light Heavyweight World Pro Title by beating Lukas Wolf of the Czech Rep and became a 6 x Pro World Champion at 4 different weights.
This was by far the biggest and most professional run show East Anglia has seen to date which was also promoted by Hunt. The sold out “Undisputed” show brought fighters over from Holland and Czech Rep to fight the top UK professional fighters, but also gave the best up and coming amateur local fighters the opportunity to show their skills. You could tell by the set up of the venue that no expense was spared and the best ISKA World Class Judges and referees where brought in to judge the show.
Hunt weighed in at a ripped 79kg, whilst Wolf came in slightly heavier at 81.2kg.
Both fighters were undefeated in Pro Full Contact Kickboxing rules. Hunt knew he had to step up his game with Wolf having well over 100 fights behind him and had trained hard at his own Red Phoenix Academy gyms in Great Finborough, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, but also with his manager/Coach Cris Janson Piers and special guest of the night Andre Maanaart who was the former coach of K1 World Champion Remy Bonjaski.
Totally professional start with both fighters feeling each other out. The first, five or six rounds didn’t have much in it. Good power from both fighters and fairly even by the half way mark. Hunt stepped up a gear and started to make headway by landing more techniques, but the Czech Fighter was strong and powerful and was looking for the quick KO. Wolf could not cope with the high fighting pace that Hunt set and started to breathe a lot heavier in 6th, again Hunt who was very difficult to hit carried on the work rate. Final 4 or five rounds Hunt easily out-pointed his opponent to take the title on unanimous points decision.
Hunt said “This was a really tuff fight, but that is what you expect at the top level of the game. I enjoyed it a lot and am proud to have brought another World Title not just back to the UK, but back to Suffolk where I was born. I am now an Undefeated 6 x Pro World Full Contact Kickboxing Champion.”
Hunt added “I promote these shows to showcase what Professional Kickboxing is really about, but I also work very hard with like minded coaches and camps to better the sport and to give their up and coming fighters the chance to be on such a prestigious event.”
